As a librarian for young adults in my previous life, I read around a thousand books for young people and decided I could write
such books myself. So, in the last 30 years, I've published twelve novels and story collections for middle-grade readers
and teenagers, on themes as varied as the Jamestown Colony of 1607 and the skinhead movement of today. I have two more novels
currently under contract and scheduled for publication this year.
Since it's virtually impossible to make a living writing books, I also teach creative writing workshops and travel the
country doing author visits to schools.
I am married to Tom Ruby, a clinical psychologist, and we have three grown sons, three daughters-in-law, and two amazing
granddaughters. I moved to Albuquerque in 2003 when my husband began his first retirement because New Mexico had been beckoning
to us for many years.
